چکیده

Abstract A new test, referred to as axially double-edge notched Brazilian disk (ANBD), is proposed measure true mode $$\mathrm {III}$$ III fracture toughness ( $$K_{\mathrm {IIIc}}$$ K IIIc ) of rock materials. The term denotes a shear-induced fracturing via self-planar crack extension opposed twisted tension-based one commonly observed in many experiments rocks. ANBD test follows straightforward procedure thanks its simple core-based geometry and diametrical compression loading setup. Finite element analyses are employed evaluate the stress intensity variations along front calculate point-wise factors (SIFs) for different configurations. results tests conducted on granitic samples demonstrate good performance this yielding fracturing. influences parameters ligament length angle also investigated. comparison study shows that values similar {IIc}}$$ IIc but almost 2.5 times greater than {Ic}}$$ Ic . This demonstrates offers shear-based mechanism {II}$$ II , which significantly more energy-consuming {I}$$ I failure type.

A Notched Disk Crack Propagation Test for Asphalt Concrete

Cracking is a major distress in asphalt pavement which can lead to premature pavement failures and can cost agencies millions of dollars in maintenance and rehabilitation costs. Even with modern advances in pavement engineering, attempts to quantify and model cracking in asphalt pavements have proved extremely challenging; this is due to the visco-elastic behavior of asphalt concrete and the co...

The Effect of Friction on Simulated Dynamic Fracturing of Rocks

During underground nuclear tests, rocks may fail by plastic yielding, which limits shear strength, or by tensile fracture, wherever maximum principal stress exceeds tensile strength. A third mode of failure exists due to friction along closed fractured surfaces. There, friction affects slipping and can thus limit stress. In this paper, we study the effect of friction on the simulated dynamic re...

Modal $\mathrm{I}\mathrm{n}\mathrm{t}\mathrm{u}\mathrm{i}\mathrm{t}\mathrm{i}\mathrm{o}\mathrm{n}\tilde{\mathrm{l}}\mathrm{s}\mathrm{t}\mathrm{i}\mathrm{C}$ Logics and Predicate Superintuitionistic Logics: $\mathrm{C}_{0\Gamma \mathrm{r}\mathrm{e}..\mathrm{S}},\mathrm{p}$

In this note we deal with intuitionistic modal logics over $\mathcal{M}\mathcal{I}PC$ and predicate superintuitionistic logics. We study the correspondence between the lattice of all (normal) extensions of MTPC and the lattice of all predicate superintuitionistic logics. Let $\mathrm{L}_{Prop}$ denote a propositional language which contains two modal operators $\square$ and $\mathrm{O}$ , and $...

Characterization of the Edge Crack Torsion (ECT) Test for Mode III Fracture Toughness Measurement of Laminated Composites

The edge crack torsion (ECT) test is designed to initiate mode III delamination growth in composite laminates. An ECT specimen is a rectangular laminate, containing an edge delamination at the laminate mid-plane. Torsion load is applied to the specimens, resulting in relative transverse shear sliding of the delaminated faces. The test data reduction schemes are intended to yield initiation valu...
